Year End TPL Procedures- Entries cleared in 2024 must be closed in 2024

To benefit from preferential status under TPL, U.S. Customs & Border Protection requires that eligible shipments be finalized and presented with their offices no later than December 30, 2024. This means that the shipment must not only cross the border in 2024 but must also have a formal Customs entry consisting of original TPL certificates of eligibility from Global Affairs, original entry summary, and monetary payment to CBP by December 30, 2024.

To ensure we meet CBP's entry filing deadlines and secure reduced duty treatment for our clientele, Metro Customs Brokers Inc. requires all TPL eligible shipments to be released by CBP no later than Monday, December 23rd, 2024.

  • All shipments of textiles/wearing apparel must have fabric, yarn and thread origins to determine if TPL or USMCA applies.

  • There is no option to use 2025 TPL for shipments that were released in 2024.

  • Any client that has insufficient TPL will be referred to our Regulatory group to request SMEs from Global Affairs on their behalf.

  • Cert-only requests must include the scheduled ETA and port of entry so we can apply for the proper TPL calendar year.

  • Please contact your customer service representative with any questions.
